PRIDE PARADE (EXCERPT FROM "EZTV EYE VOL. 1"), 1983

Jake Wirthshafter

In June 1983, a week after EZTV Video Gallery's official opening, a semi-regular video magazine called “EZTV Eye” began.

Christopher Street West is the official name of the long-standing Gay Pride Parade in West Hollywood. Taking advantage of this opportunity, EZTV Eye Editor Jake Wirthshafter dispatched "Men on the Street" Video Correspondents Michael J. (Masucci), Brian Bellamy, and Gerald Alexander to attend the parade.

Part performance art & comedy, the 'correspondents' were tasked to approach attendees and ask inappropriate questions, talk trash, and otherwise make fools of themselves. This helped celebrate the inclusive and positive energy of what was still, at the time, a very rare public event.

Footage taped throughout the day was brought back to EZTV, edited by Wirtrhshafter, and then presented soon afterwards on TV monitors.
